Flexible Part-Time Provision

At Farmspace Barnsley CIC, we provide flexible part-time placements designed to support children and young people who benefit from a smaller, specialist and nurturing learning environment.

Placements are usually arranged through referrals from Local Authorities, schools and other education providers. In some circumstances, families may contact Farmspace directly to discuss whether our provision could meet their child’s needs.

Where a child is registered with a school or is accessing an Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) package, the school or commissioning organisation must be involved in the referral process and complete the required paperwork before a placement can be agreed. This ensures that everyone involved has a clear understanding of the child’s needs, outcomes, safeguarding information and support requirements.

Our part-time placements are tailored to each young person and may support areas including:

  • Improving engagement and attendance.
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and building confidence.
  • Developing independence and essential life skills.
  • Working towards individual targets, including EHCP outcomes where applicable.
  • Building practical and vocational skills through animal care, horticulture, and outdoor learning.

Farmspace works closely with schools, Local Authorities, families and other professionals to ensure each young person receives consistent support. Our aim is to provide a positive learning experience where children can rebuild confidence, discover their strengths and develop the skills needed for their future.

Testimonial 1

Since Beau started attending, her confidence has grown significantly. She eagerly looks forward to her visits to the farm and gets excited the day before, which is wonderful to see as it brings out a bit of Beau’s spark again. Beau absolutely loves Kelly and all the animals on the farm. I am incredibly grateful for everything Kelly does for Beau and the other students. She is truly a kind-hearted person, and we are so fortunate to have her behind the program.

Since joining Farmspace, Harrison’s behaviour and focus have shown significant improvement. He is now more settled at the farm, able to concentrate, and is acquiring new skills. He has accomplished tasks he never thought possible, such as lambing, which he wouldn’t have been able to achieve without the provision. Harrison eagerly looks forward to his time at Farmspace every week, and despite challenging weather conditions, he always expresses a strong desire to attend.
